2017 Confederations Cup Matchday 1: Team-By-Team Analysis

Russia won their debut 2-0 against New Zealand Credit: SI

Matchday 1 of the 2017 Confederations Cup is in the books. All eight teams had their debuts, and we can see some teams already look better than others.

The SoccerNews Team has prepared a detailed analysis on a team-by-team basis. We will look at the strengths and weaknesses each side showed in their first game of the tournament.

Russia

Russia must be one of the toughest teams to analyse after the first game. They had the home advantage, played in the first game, and did it against the weaker side in the tournament. As such, anything other than a win would have been a huge disappointment. But the hosts delivered, and defeated a sluggish New Zealand side by a convincing 2-0 score.

They did what th…

Everton 0-3 Brighton: Hurzeler makes winning start against 10-man Toffees

Fabian Hurzeler made a fantastic start to his Brighton tenure as the Seagulls opened their Premier League campaign with a resounding 3-0 victory over 10-man Everton at Goodison Park.

Having endured a difficult start on Merseyside, Brighton found their groove with goals from Karou Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra securing an impressive triumph.

Mitoma rounded off a fine first-half move after being picked out by debutant Yankuba Minteh, with Welbeck adding a second in the 56th minute.

Everton’s chances of a comeback were all but halted 10 minutes later as Ashley Young was given his marching orders for a pull on goalscorer Mitoma, with Adingra adding a third four minutes from time before Yasin Ayari saw a goal awarded on-pitch but overturned after a VAR re…

Euro 2008 saw 520 arrested, says ministry

A total of 520 people have been arrested and 1,500 charges filed in the first two weeks of the Euro, the Austrian interior ministry said on Monday in a positive security assessment of the tournament.

Among the charges filed, about half were for penal infractions and the other half for administrative offences, ministry spokesman Guenther Marek told a press conference.

A total of 320 fans were arrested for penal offences while most of the others only had their identities checked, he said.

In total, 1.9 million supporters have travelled to the small alpine country since June 7, Marek also noted.

Violence has remained at a minimum during the Euro.

Barcelona 2017-18: Iniesta´s LaLiga triumphs

Barcelona s 4-2 win at Deportivo La Coruna completed their procession to LaLiga glory and secured a ninth top-flight title for outgoing club great Andres Iniesta.

The 33-year-old Spain playmaker scored in a 5-0 rout of Sevilla last weekend in the Copa del Rey final, meaning this is the fourth domestic double of his decorated career and Barca s third in the past four seasons.

It is proving to be a glorious farewell for Iniesta, who confirmed he will depart Camp Nou at the end of the season in an emotional news conference on Friday.

Here, we take a look back at every season where the mercurial midfielder has finished on top of the pile.

Off-target Messi endures least accurate Champions League display since 2011

Lionel Messi endured a rare off night as Barcelona exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Juventus, with the striker having five shots off target at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Juventus determined defence recorded their second clean sheet of the tie to extend their run without conceding a goal in the competition to 531 minutes and Messi struggled to make an impact, missing a close-range volley in the second half and screwing wide in the first period.

Only once before has Messi been less effective in front of goal in the Champions League, with the Argentina international seeing six of his efforts go off target against BATE Borisov in September 2011, a match Barca won 5-0 and in which Messi scored twice regardless of his inaccu…

Week 10 NFL Parlay Picks: There's No Contesting George Kittle

Week 9 was one of the more unpredictable weeks in recent memory with huge upsets and a lot of head-scratching results. Underdogs went 7-6 straight up and reminded us how humbling betting a sport like this can be.

Here’s a look at my favorite parlay picks I’ll be targeting in Week 10.

Bears vs Packers SNF Prop Bets: Dillon Will Be the Beneficiary of Packers' Offense

The Green Bay Packers took Week 1 on the chin but get a chance to dismantle a divisional rival in the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field Sunday night.

The Bears’ Week 1 victory over the 49ers isn’t moving the needle for me, and this Green Bay team under new offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is going to lean on the run. It’s going to be A.J. Dillon who finishes with more touches in the Green Bay backfield.

Here are my free NFL player prop picks for Sunday Night Football between the Bears and Packers.

Commanders vs Cowboys Prop Bets: All of the Yards

The Dallas Cowboys have become as much of a Thanksgiving regular as turkey and stuffing, and they’re double-digit favorites to take down the Washington Commanders in Thursday’s latest NFL odds.

It’s generally a big betting day whenever America’s Team is in action, and the Cowboys are set to be one of the most popular NFL picks on the TNF odds slate after winning four of their last five games to move to 7-3.

With Dallas riding a 12-game win streak at home, it could be one-way traffic against the faltering Commanders, but the NFL player props market is there to add to the rooting interest. Here are my best free NFL picks for the second game of the Thanksgiving tripleheader.
