Rodri warns Manchester City’s rivals that ‘the best is yet to come’

Rodri has warned Manchester City’s rivals they can still get better as they remain in the hunt for a second consecutive treble.

City brushed aside Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for a sixth consecutive season, with their dominance not reflected in a scoreline which was defined by two deflected strikes from Bernardo Silva.

The win extended City’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 22 games, and although the international break could disrupt their rhythm, Spain midfielder Rodri believes there is more to come.

“It’s going to be good for us, this break,” Rodri said. “You will see the best version of this team at the end of the season.

Saka penalty compared to Pearce´s moment of redemption by emotional Lineker

Former England striker Gary Lineker was moved to tears by Bukayo Saka s penalty against Switzerland, comparing it to Stuart Pearce s iconic spot-kick at Euro 1996.

England were staring at a quarter-final exit from Euro 2024 until Saka scored a wonderful equaliser to cancel out Breel Embolo s opener 10 minutes from time.

The Arsenal winger – whose saved penalty cost England in the Euro 2020 final against Italy – then stepped up to convert in the shoot-out as the Three Lions scored with all five of their attempts.

Jordan Pickford saved from Manuel Akanji as England won just the fourth penalty shoot-out in their history, teeing up a semi-final clash with the Netherlands for Wednesday.

Lineker was part of the England team beaten on spot-kicks by West Germ…

Euro 2016 too early for Marcus Rashford

England boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford is unlikely to be in the Three Lions squad for Euro 2016

England boss Roy Hodgson has stated that he is unlikely to select Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford in his squad for Euro 2016, despite the teenagers rise and impressive performances for the Red Devils in recent months.

A very bold decision

Talking to Sky Sports about Rashford, Hodgson said: I think it would be a very bold decision to put him in and I think it would mean possibly leaving someone behind who, at the moment in my opinion, has more reason to be called up.

But you never know. The fact is it would be foolish as well to say no, no, he s not ready, he can t do it . I am sure he could do it.

Emotional Guardiola lauds Liverpool legend Klopp as Man City rivalry ends

An emotional Pep Guardiola offered his sincerest thanks to Jurgen Klopp for pushing Manchester City to new heights after their relentless Premier League battle with Liverpool.

Klopp s Reds are the only side to have stopped Man City from winning the top-flight title in the last seven seasons, with Liverpool taking the crown in 2019-20.

For all of the Liverpool and City rivalry, there has remained a mutual respect between Guardiola and Klopp, who faced off during their time with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund respectively as well.

Ahead of Klopp s departure from Anfield, the German labelled Guardiola as the best manager in the world , suggesting no one else could achieve four straight titles with the City side that Guardiola managed.

Kane passes Greaves as Tottenham´s outright record goalscorer

Harry Kane has passed Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham s all-time record goalscorer.

The 29-year-old drew level with Greaves tally of 266 last month with a pinpoint finish against Fulham and on Sunday netted a ruthless opener against Manchester City to move out in front.

Kane s record haul came in 416 appearances, compared to 379 matches for the late Greaves between 1961 and 1970.

His strike against City also took him to 200 Premier League goals, making him just the third player to reach that landmark after Wayne Rooney (208) and Alan Shearer (260).

England captain Kane made his debut for Spurs in August 2011 and netted his first goal against Shamrock Rovers four months later in a Europa League tie.

Manchester United 0-0 Southampton: Casemiro sees red as Saints claim point

Manchester United failed to bounce back from their historic defeat to Liverpool as Casemiro was sent off in a 0-0 draw with Premier League strugglers Southampton.

United suffered the largest loss in the history of their great rivalry with Liverpool last Sunday, going down 7-0 on Merseyside.

Seven days on, Erik ten Hag s men were again disappointing, and Casemiro s red card for a bad foul on Carlos Alcaraz allowed the relegation-threatened visitors to dominate.

Southampton failed to take their chances, however, left to settle for a well-earned point that keeps them bottom of the table but only two points adrift of safety.

United initially looked in the mood to set things right after their Anfield humbling and Marcus Rashford was denied by Gavin Bazunu afte…
